National Semiconductor was an American semiconductor manufacturer, that specialized in analog devices and subsystems, formerly headquartered in Santa Clara, California, USA. The company produced power management integrated circuits, display drivers, audio and operational amplifiers, communication interface products and data conversion solutions. National’s key markets included wireless handsets, displays and a variety of broad electronics markets, including medical, automotive, industrial, and test and measurement applications.
In 2011, the company became part of Texas Instruments as the result of a merger. The acquisition was completed on September 23, 2011. Texas Instruments has continued to develop and produce National’s product lines with the National Semiconductor brand being phased out. The merger brought together two long-time leaders in the semiconductor industry with complementary product portfolios that resulted in a stronger company to serve its customers.
