ATMEL

Atmel Corporation was an American-based designer and manufacturer of semiconductors, founded in 1984. The company focused on embedded systems built around microcontrollers. Its products included microcontrollers (8-bit AVR, 32-bit AVR, 32-bit ARM-based, automotive grade, and 8-bit Intel 8051 derivatives) radio frequency (RF) devices, EEPROM and flash memory devices, and a number of products designed for specific applications such as touch sensing.

Atmel was acquired by Microchip Technology in 2016. After the acquisition, Microchip continued to support and innovate on the AVR and ARM-based microcontroller lines that were Atmel’s specialty, and integrated them into its product portfolio. This means that while the Atmel name is no longer in use, its technologies live on under the Microchip brand.
